Short Review: 100 Words or Less (no spoilers)
This is probably one of the most depressing movies I’ve seen in a long time. The acting is fantastic, especially Casey Affleck and Lucas Hedges, but the story is utterly bleak and heartbreaking. I kept hoping for something – anything – good to happen to these people. This is a story filled with loss and grief and not much else. The characters’ actions are sometimes frustrating to the viewers but also completely understandable and authentic given the tragedies they’ve all been through. This film is visually, artistically and technically top-notch, but it’s emotionally manipulative taxing.
