A documentary that explores the life of Matt Shepard, the victim of one of the nation’s most publicized hate crimes.
Short Review: 100 Words or Less (no spoilers)
The murder of Matt Shepard in 1998 was horrific in its brutality and it sparked a national conversation about LGBT rights and protections. This documentary focuses more on Matt’s life than it does on his tragic death. The filmmakers reveal who Matt really was before his name was splashed across he headlines. Intimate interviews with Matt’s parents, teachers, and friends reveal a life that was full, complicated, imperfect and taken too soon. Although the movie is difficult to watch at times, the love that the filmmakers have for Matt is evident and they craft a moving testament to his memory.
