Short Review: 100 Words or Less (no spoilers)
I recall watching this movie soon after its release and finding it laugh-out-loud funny. I was a teenager then. I rewatched it recently and, unfortunately, this movie does not hold up particularly well. I still laughed or chuckled several times, but my overall emotion was annoyance. Jim Carrey’s antics now seem over-the-top and cornball, like watching a sad clown yell, flail and make stupid faces for 90 minutes. This movie has plenty of well-written jokes and the dialogue is hilarious at times, but Carey’s overactive delivery now feels ridiculous and grating. This movie hasn’t changed, but clearly I have.
Final Grade: D
