Independence Day: Resurgence 2016

US Title:
Independence Day: Resurgence
Year:
2016
Country:
US
Director:
Roland Emmerich

What’s It About?
Set 20 years after the original Independence Day, the aliens are back and they’re seriously pissed.

Short Review: 100 Words or Less (no spoilers)
It’s basically cheesy popcorn fun, made better with heaping scoops of nostalgia. If it had to stand on its own, this movie would be a lackluster, big-budget, tacky alien invasion movie complete with the requisite under-developed characters, monster-sized plot holes, super-sized explosions and deafening patriotic music. However, what makes Resurgence better than its counterparts is the filmmakers’ reverence and allegiance to the original movie. Its biggest strength is reconnecting us to so many of the same characters, now twenty years older and wiser, coming together to save the world… again. (No Will Smith or Margaret Colin though.)
