Westworld – Season 1

Westworld Season 1

US Title:

What’s It About?
On the surface, it’s about lifelike androids at a futuristic luxury resort who start to become self aware. On a broader level, I think it’s also about the potential dangers of artificial intelligence and a commentary about the darker side of human nature. I know, blah, blah, blah… there’s lots of nudity too.

Short Review: 100 Words or Less (no spoilers)
The first few episodes are slow, but the show definitely gets stronger as it progresses, building a captivating mythology and drawing you into the many individual subplots and characters – both human and android. The cast is excellent. Sooo many great performances: Anthony Hopkins, Jeffrey Wright, Evan Rachel Wood, James Marsden. The shining star rising above all of them is Thandie Newton, who is the ultimate heart and soul of the season for me. She is amazing, and so is her character. By season’s end, we get many answers to our lingering questions; and the season finale is fantastic.

Final Grade: B+
