Short Review: 100 Words or Less (no spoilers)
It looks good. The visuals, effects, and cinematography are great. Unfortunately, those are the only good things about this movie. Despite having a great cast, the script is awful and the story is a mess: nonsensical, frustrating, littered with plot holes and clunky exposition, and a disservice to the source material. The movie’s ending is different than the book’s ending (in some ways the change was good, in others it was not), closing with a small cliffhanger setting up the sequels. However, since this film performed so poorly and was deservedly panned by critics, the follow-up films were never made.
Final Grade: D
