What’s It About?
This is a remake of the 2002 film of the same name and follows a groups of five friends whose vacation to a lakeside cabin is ruined by the outbreak of a flesh-eating virus.
Short Review: 100 Words or Less (no spoilers)
My thoughts on this film can be summarized in one word: unnecessary. This remake aligns very closely to the 2002 source material (which, by the way, was pretty sad to begin with) and doesn’t really add anything new or exciting to the story. With the addition of one very minor thread involving Instagram and a few tweaks to some of the characters’ gruesome demises, the 2016 movie is nearly indistinguishable from the 2002 version. It’s just as disappointing and frustrating as its predecessor, but the acting and writing is actually worse in this newer version.
Final Grade: F
