Walking on Sunshine (2014)

Walking On Sunshine 2014

US Title:
Walking on Sunshine
Max Giwa, Dania Pasquini

What’s It About?
Using covers of hit rock songs and ballads from the 1980’s, this film tells the story of a woman who goes on holiday to celebrate the surprise engagement of her younger sister. After arriving, she discovers that her sister’s fiancé is actually her own former summer fling, whom she left in Italy three years ago.

Short Review: 100 Words or Less (no spoilers)
I think I know what the filmmakers were shooting for: something light, fun and catchy set to the backdrop of feel-good music from happier days. It just doesn’t work. The story is clumsy, even judging by the low standards of a musical romantic comedy. The acting is uneven and all over the place. The songs are not good. Really not good. None of the covers do justice to the originals, and the performances are too over-the-top or just plain off. It was like watching bad karaoke with costumes and backdrops — for 90 minutes.

Final Grade: D
