Short Review: 100 Words or Less (no spoilers)
Romance dramas aren’t my cup of tea, but I gotta say that I found Brooklyn to be kind of nice. Yes, there were moments when it was painfully obvious that I was watching a “chick flick,” and I shook my head a few times at the decisions made by the main character (“oh my god, just be honest!”); but overall I have to admit that I enjoyed this film. The script surpasses typical boy-meets-girl or love triangle tropes by including resonant themes of immigration, emigration and leaving one’s homeland. Saoirse Ronan did a great job here; so did Emory Cohen.
